As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, Saka Bakti Husada (SBH) held  a Basic Life Support (BLS) Orientation  for SBH Scouts from 10 provinces. The event was held both in-person and online at the Siwabessy Auditorium at the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, as Deputy Advisor to the National Level SBH Advisory Board, said that three basic skills are important for Scouts to master, namely cardiopulmonary resuscitation, splinting for broken bones, and transportation techniques for patients with sudden health problems.

"These are skills that Scouts should possess as initiators within the community. We don't expect this training to be used, but if necessary, Scouts can be the backbone of the community in emergencies," said Prof. Dante.

He emphasized that basic emergency skills aren't solely for medical personnel. "As a doctor, I've helped patients not only in hospitals but also on airplanes during emergencies. These aren't skills exclusive to healthcare workers; they should be accessible to everyone. Therefore, I encourage training participants to receive a special proficiency certificate," he continued.

The Deputy Minister of Health also expressed his appreciation to the Kendari BKK, which has been the most active SBH base within the Ministry of Health for three consecutive years. "Hopefully, this will motivate other SBHs across the region," he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, who also serves as the Head of the National Saka Bakti Husada, Kunta Wibawa Dasa Nugraha, emphasized the importance of the role of SBH in supporting health transformation through education for the community.

"Forty is a mature age. I hope SBH members truly embrace their role as pioneers of clean and healthy living. Basic life support education is important, not only during disasters, but also in everyday life," said Kunta.

He also encouraged all SBH members to become agents of change in their immediate communities. "Start with family, friends, and the surrounding community. If anyone hasn't had a health checkup, invite them to the community health center. If anyone hasn't been active, encourage them to exercise. Because all diseases can be prevented if we detect them early," he added.

This BHD orientation is a concrete form of implementing  Health Resilience  as mandated in Health Law Number 17 of 2023. This activity has begun since Saturday (19/7) for the theory session, while the practical session was held today simultaneously in 10 provinces.

The Head of the Health Crisis Center, Agus Jamaludin, explained that this activity was designed to enable participants to respond to emergency conditions, such as sudden cardiac arrest, stroke, or loss of consciousness.

"BHD is important to spread, even simple actions like performing CPR or calling 119 can save lives. This is part of our religious practice," Agus said.

This activity was attended by more than 1,480 participants, consisting of approximately 150 offline participants in Jakarta and 1,330 online participants from 10 provinces. In its implementation, the Ministry of Health collaborated with the Indonesian Emergency and Disaster Nurses Association (HIPGABI) as a training instructor partner. To date, the BHD training facilitated by the Health Crisis Center has reached more than 10,400 people, including within the Ministry of Health, other government agencies, and public events such as Car Free Day.

In the activity report, the Daily Chair of the National Level Saka Bakti Husada Leadership who is also the Director of Health Promotion and Community Empowerment, Elvieda Sariwati, said that the 40th commemoration of SBH this year carries the theme: "Saka Bakti Husada: One Determination for Real Action to Make Indonesia Healthy".

A series of commemorative activities began in June 2025, including First Aid for Psychological Wounds (P3LP) training, an assessment of the most active bases, a 40,000-step challenge that successfully recorded 3.3 million steps by 214 participants, and a Biblio Battle to increase reading interest among SBH members. In addition to the BHD Orientation, subsequent activities include an educational session on the use and understanding of natural medicines (July 23), as well as a national joint Krida P2 training exercise to be held on August 7.

"For 40 years, SBH has contributed to expanding the reach of health education and services. We must continue to encourage people to live healthy lives, starting with their own families. Our concrete actions are urgently needed," Kunta concluded.
